RAQUEL PARTNOY ART

RAQUEL PARTNOY is a painter, poet, and essayist. Born in Rosario City, Argentina, she attended for several years the Buenos Aires’s workshop of painter, muralist, and teacher Demetrio Urruchúa. Partnoy’s first show was at Van Riel Gallery in 1965, and she continued painting and showing her work at diverse venues in Buenos Aires and other cities of her country until 1994 when she moved to the United States. She settled in Washington D.C. where she continued her artistic career. Partnoy has offered mural art workshops for teenagers at the Latin AmericanYouth Center in Washington, D.C.

Her work has been shown at more than 100 solo exhibits at her country and the United States. Her solo exhibits in the United States include: Studio Gallery –1995; Washington Convention Center – “The Women’s Expo”–1995; DC. Jewish Community Center – 1996; Embassy of Argentina (U.S.A) –1997, 2003, 2008, 2015; B’nai B’rith Klutznick National Jewish Museum –1997; Parish Gallery, Washington, D.C –1999; Goucher College, Baltimore – 2001; Martin Luther King Library, Washington, D.C – 2003; University of Wisconsin, Milwaukee – 2005; Latino Art Museum, Pomona, CA – 2006. South National University, Argentina, 2013. Embassy of Argentina, Washington 2015, this show took part in the commemoration of the Day for Remembrance of Truth and Justice. Partnoy represented Argentina at the Expo Vl Continent, Barcelona Civic Center, Spain. 

Partnoy has received several grants from the D.C.Commission on the Arts and the National Endowment for the Humanities. Her work has been recognized by art critics in Argentina and the United States, and can be found in museums and public and private collections in both countries. She has lectured at the invitation of universities and institutions about: Argentina’s Social Art, Mural Art in Argentina, Women and Tango, and her paintings and personal experiences during the military dictatorship in her country.

Her work has been featured in books that include: Arte al Día Documenta 87: La Plástica Norteamericana, Buenos Aires, Argentina; The Tribe of Dina: A Jewish Women Anthology by Irena Klepfisz & Melanie Kaye, United States; Religious Imagination and the Body: A Feminist Analysis by Paula M. Cooey, United States;  CALYX- a Journal of Art and Literature by Women, Summer 2008. 

Her essay Silent Witness is published in Women Writing Resistance, Essays on Latin American and the Caribbean, Jennifer Browdy de Hernandez, ed. South End Press,USA. 2004. Surviving Genocide, an essay, in The Jewish Diaspora in Latin American and the Caribbean: Fragments of Memory, Kristin Ruggiero, ed. Sussex Academic Press,UK, 2005. Her poetry narrative book Ciudad de rojos horizontes (City of Red Horizons) was published by HDE Hemisferio Derecho Ediciones, Argentina,2013. Poems of this book, English version, appears in the Anthology Writing Fire, Green Fire Press,USA, 2015. Her poems and paintings are published in the anthology “43 x Ayotzinapa”, Fondo Editorial Cooperativo Los Juegos del Temps, Santa Fe, Argentina, 2015.

 

RAQUEL PARTNOY es pintora, ensayista y poeta. Nacida en la ciudad de Rosario, Argentina, concurrió al taller del pintor y maestro Demetrio Urruchúa en Buenos Aires. Su primer exposición fue realizada en la Galería Van Riel de Buenos Aires en 1965, luego siguió pintando y exhibiendo sus obras en diversos lugares de esa ciudad y en el interior del país hasta l994, año en el que se radicó en Washington D.C. Estados Unidos donde continúa con su carrera artística y literaria. En esta ciudad Partnoy ha dado talleres de arte mural para adolescentes en el Latin American Youth Center.

Su obra ha sido expuesta en más de 100 exposiciones individuales en Argentina y en los Estados Unidos. Sus exhibiciones individuales en los Estados Unidos incluyen: Studio Gallery 1995; Washington Convention Center,The Women Expo 1995; DC Jewish Community Center 1996; Embajada Argentina en Washington 1997, 2003, 2008, 2015;Bnai Brith Klutznick National Jewish Museum 1997; Parish Gallery, Washington D.C. 1999; Goucher College, Baltimore 2001; Martin Luther King Library, Washington D.C. 2003; University of Wisconsin, Milwaukee 2005; Latino Art Museum, Pomona, CA 2006; En 2015, formó parte de la conmemoración del Día de la Memoria por la Verdad y la Justicia en la Embajada Argentina en Washington con una muestra relacionada con el tema. Partnoy ha representado a Argentina en la Expo Vl Continente, realizada en el Centro Cívico de Barcelona, España. 

Partnoy ha recibido varios subsidios de la D.C. Commission on the Arts and the National Endowment for the Humanities y ha sido reconocida por importantes critícos de arte en Argentina y los Estados Unidos. Su obra puede encontrarse en Museos y colecciones privadas de ambos paises. Ha dado conferencias invitada por universidades e instituciones sobre: Pintura social en Argentina, El arte mural en Argentina, Mujeres y Tango, y sus experiencias personales durante la dictadura militar en Argentina.
